
Meyrin municipality used to be a small agricultural location up to the 1950s. The rapid economic development of the region started simultaneously with the construction of CERN - one of the world’s largest nuclear research organizations. Nowadays, Meyrin is considered a commuter town; while many of its residents work in CERN or other companies of central Geneva. The coworking trend has appeared in Meyrin in response to the growing number of freelancers, self-employed workers, small and medium-sized businesses. Many initiatives are intended to perform tasks in a professional environment rather than at home. It allows them to cooperate with other professionals, build synergies, share ideas, etc.
