Bremen is a city in northwestern Germany with almost 570,000 residents. Historically a port city, Bremen’s economy still receives around 30% of income from maritime. Othe sectors of significant importance include car construction, aerospace technology, food processing and biotech. About 3,150 people work for Airbus in Bremen, the region has the largest factory in Germany, after Hamburg. The city also boasts a large Mercedes production plant. Together with goods, Bremen is also an open port for ideas and innovation. The city cooperates with the University of Bremen to implement various R&D projects. The University of Bremen hosts one of the largest technological parks in Germany with business centres hosting more than 300 companies and 6 thousand experts working there. The city is also expecting a Science Park added to the infrastructure. “Big fish” has attracted a vast array of smaller companies working in a similar field, looking for potential collaboration and funding. Excellent transport links via road, rail, the seaport and the airport have a positive impact. Tourism is also becoming increasingly important for the port city, with 2 million overnight stays per year, an increase of 60 per cent within ten years.
