The Sloterdijk district has tremendous business potential. Not only it contains one of the most important transportation junctions in the capital but it has always had a positive business reputation. In the 1990s Sloterdijk was a hotspot for telecom and internet companies and the neighbourhood is planning on regaining this reputation. Historically, Amsterdam has always been a city to which open-minded people are drawn and has evolved into an open, free and inclusive democratic society. This diversity within the population of the city is one of its key assets, which, placed within a city much smaller than New York and London, enables close proximity of people, knowledge and ideas driving the city’s entrepreneurial and innovative spirit. The city thrives on creativity, complementarity and collaboration. And while collaboration in Amsterdam is important, many companies have already started to struggle to search for one. The city is saturated with companies and such an extended list makes it hard actually finding a suitable partner. That’s why office locations like Sloterdijk have started to take over the local market. To boost growth, some companies have become keen on moving to a smaller location. Such neighbourhoods have an effect similar to the one coworking spaces have: space sharing enables better collaboration and improves companies’ recognition in the area.
