Gävle is a city and a capital of Gävleborg County. It serves as an administrative centre and a seat of Gävle Municipality. As one of the top 15 largest cities in Sweden, Gävle is home to over 100 thousand residents. In recent years, the city found a new symbol, so popular with people around the world, that now it is used even for marketing purposes. Yule Goat figure made of straw is annually displayed in the city in December and often vandalised or set on fire shortly after. Tourism and hospitality are important, but the economy of the city is actually based on a healthy mix of industries and numerous companies working in the service sector. Today there are about 7 thousand companies of different sizes, industries and offices in Gävle. Thanks to the city’s proximity to Stockholm, Gävle serves as a logistics hub for the entire eastern coast of Sweden. To strengthen the city’s expansion, the local municipality is constantly introducing support programmes for young business as well as having land ready for new establishments of business centres in Gävle.
