In recent years Lille has made a decision to reform its business scene. During the industrial revolution, the area was known for its major textile, engineering, chemical and mining industries. Today, the city is trying to attract new businesses that will add to the local economy. Local authorities have changed the Vieux Lille trying to restore the attractiveness of the city, to businesses and as a means of attracting residents back to the city centre. The area was prone to major urban redevelopment. Lille’s officials have also introduced four “Centres of Excellence”. These institutions are aimed at developing expertise and serve as a venue for firms working in similar spheres. They help create clusters that focus on cutting edge technologies and product development. Some of the most favourable spheres to work in Lille are renewable energy, urbanization and tech as well as health and agribusiness.

Coworking in Lille is fun! Why? Because as soon as you leave work, you have a whole city to explore. Lille is not a typical French city. It’s located close to Belgium as well as England. This has influenced not only its architecture but the culture in general. It’s a corridor that makes your transition from France to Belgium less noticeable. Buildings in Lille are often built of brick in rows, which is not a typical French “decision”. The city has a youthful spirit thanks to more than 100,000 students living there. Higher education institutions not only support new research and economic growth but also add to the nightlife of the city.
