When The East Texas Oilfield was discovered in 1930, it made the city one of the largest centers of the oil industry. At present days, Dallas is also known as a major scientific and cultural hub. In the last few years, Dallas has been dubbed Silicon Prairie, thanks to its influence in the fields of new technologies and telecommunications. For every resident of Dallas, there are twice as many restaurants as in New York. Due to the recent economic boom in Texas, many people from other states and other countries moved to Dallas.
