With about 36,000 inhabitants, Schaffhausen is one of the medium-sized Swiss cities and is the centre of a lively and independent small region between Zurich and the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The charm of Schaffhausen is characterized by its well-preserved, traffic-free historic old town and its beautiful location on the Rhine. From the Munot fortress, Schaffhausen's landmark, you can see the unique landscape of the Rhine. Directly at Schaffhausen, the well-known Rhine Falls are a natural phenomenon. Companies from the metalworking and machinery industries (such as Georg Fischer + GF +), chemistry (Cilag) or watchmaking (IWC) have made Schaffhausen known. Today, the economy of the city is dominated by innovative small and medium-sized businesses, particularly in the new technologies and services sectors. Various international companies have also chosen to set up in Schaffhausen for its privileged economic and fiscal environment. Zurich and its airport can be reached in just over half an hour by car or by train.
