The East Railway Station was built in 1877 as the main station for the Aarhus-Ryomgård railway. The property was designed by N.P.C Holsøe and built in red brick. In 1904, the station was expanded, with the hall being made deeper. The building served many functions, including waiting room, ticket sales, kiosk, and the station master lived on the top floor. In 1984, the building faced demolition, which was prevented by strong public opposition. A self-governing institution bought the building for a symbolic amount and restored it with great respect for its architectural and cultural-historical values.
