Navigatortalon was designed by architect Harald Neovius, and the building was completed in 1905 for Lars Krogius Oy. Shortly after completion, the building was occupied for about 50 years by the Finnish Steamship Company, which gave the building its name. Originally a four-story building, two additional floors were added in the 1920s for residential use. From 2017 to 2020, the building underwent extensive renovations to convert it into office and restaurant spaces. A new elevator shaft was installed, along with significant changes to the ventilation system. Remote cooling was added to the office spaces on the first and third floors. The office spaces have mechanical ventilation with cooling.

The building has a sauna area with showers that office tenants can use by agreement. There is a restaurant on the ground floor of the building, and numerous other restaurants and services are located in the immediate vicinity. Bicycle storage facilities are located in the courtyard.
