The global coworking market is expected to grow rapidly over the next six years as hybrid work models become permanent and companies continue to move away from long-term office leases.
After a few years of stagnation in the aftermath of the pandemic, the coworking industry is now back on its dizzying rise. New forecasts estimate that the market will grow from $15.81 billion in 2025 to $41.12 billion in 2031, at a compound annual growth rate of 17.27%.
Large and larger well-established companies are playing a growing role in the demand for coworking, as they move away from long-term leases and towards flexible, short-term space commitments.
This provides companies with the opportunity to convert real estate costs into operating expenses and adjust space utilisation according to current economic conditions.

The world’s largest online shopping marketplace, Amazon, ordered all of its 350,000 employees back to their offices in full by early 2025, but the chaotic rollout left employees without enough desks and parking.
So last August, Amazon signed a lease with coworking chain WeWork, adding 24,000 square feet to its Broadway office building. WeWork also operates two other 67,000 square feet of Amazon offices elsewhere in Manhattan.

San Francisco-based US AI giant Anthropic has employees working out of a shared WeWork office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and other big companies, such as JPMorgan, Lyft, and Pfizer, have also rented out coworking spaces.
"As companies consolidate their in-person office plans, coworking spaces are a natural fit to fill the gaps without committing to long-term leases," John Santora, CEO of WeWork, says.
