New feature! Listen to this article as a podcast
It began in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, when companies for the first time started supplementing their lost income by renting out their suitable office space for non-traditional purposes, such as wedding parties and cinemas.
In line with the breakthrough and boom of the coworking wave over the past few decades, the event segment has taken on an increasingly larger and more visible role not only among global coworking spaces, but also among larger companies.
Today, the monthly, perhaps even weekly event has become a mandatory feature in the global marketing calendars and annual calendars of international coworking environments.
The event features can range widely from professional lectures and product launches to entertaining stand-up shows and intimate concerts with famous artists. Many companies also rent out their canteens and other spaces for private family parties.
Added bonus
"Whether your company's event-making is primarily aimed at strengthening your social cohesion or you also aim to make money from it, it is important that you tackle the task with the right professional approach.
Consider whether you should hire an event manager, because both planning and marketing an event can take a lot of time and effort," the founder of SPF:architects, Zoltan Pali, says, who regularly uses his company's design studio, gallery, and outdoor space in Los Angeles for event purposes.

Although events can bring some nice financial side benefits to coworking spaces, for most office communities, it is primarily about increasing the social community in often unused spaces and time.
"The revenue is included in our overall accounting, but we do not set up events to make money. We do it to develop communities, support art, and give a platform to a perhaps unnoticed artist," Zoltan Pali points out.
Raises team spirit
In Denmark, the Schiller Office Hotel in Copenhagen, among others, has focused on developing and expanding its well-established and varied event space in recent years.
"We started up from a low level when we noticed that several of our corporate tenants continuously wanted to use our Cantina and other shared facilities for parties, professional arrangements, and events," the CEO of Schiller Office Hotel, Casper Andreasen, explains.

"We expanded our bar and lounge area over several stages, so that today we have a large party and event hall with a stage and space for up to 250 dining guests.
Suddenly, our 70 companies were queuing up to rent our new event hall for company parties, weddings, confirmations, and a stream of various corporate events.
At the same time, we began to arrange and stage well-attended events and dinner concerts as well as other events that can contribute to manifesting community and team spirit among our tenants," Casper Andreasen adds.
Solid growth
Gone are the days when corporate event calendars typically just featured a mandatory Christmas dinner and maybe a summer party. Today´s companies’ annual programs are brimming with frequent social events.
Globally, the event industry has experienced solid growth in recent years, driven by a strong resurgence of physical events and the continued innovation of virtual and hybrid formats. Agencies are springing up and lining up to offer companies tailor-made special events of all kinds.

"At Schiller, we want to keep responsible for our own events and arrangements, and our calendar is already fully booked with events of all kinds until well into next autumn.
Most recently, we sold out our dinner concert in October with a well-known Danish rock singer, and we are currently negotiating with some major female Danish music artists for our spring program," the Schiller director says. ●
